It appears to be any other family photograph, we may believe at first glance, but nothing can be further from the truth. Because when the family mother got a glimpse of this photo, she immediately initiated a divorce.

She never thought that a routine family photo shoot would become her nightmare. But when she arrived home and looked at the picture they had taken, something happened to her that she never thought was possible.

Astonished, she zoomed into her husband’s hand, which is where she had found the enigma that this astounding story would release. But, all of this wasn’t really possible, was it ?

Susan and John, a couple of 38 and 45 years old, respectively, had also been together since they were in college. This is that kind of couple you think will spend their entire lives together because they begin dating while still in college. Their life proceeded nicely in what is thought of as a good life, a good job, a nice house, and two lovely kids. This was, however, not satisfactory enough for John.

What was behind it?

It all began because on the day that the family photo was taken, Susan discovered that her husband had been holding a big secret for many years, and a small error led to it being revealed. Then, Susan was just innocent and living her life. She absolutely believed she had the life she’s always fantasied. To mark the occasion, she decided to hold an afternoon of family photography.

A special moment

A moment like that, when everything is going on well and you are in the best of moods, has to be preserved, Susan believed. It is one of those things which we prefer to recall throughout our lives. So she got in touch with a photographer she had met at work. He, the photographer replied her mail within minutes and mentioned that he could arrange to do the photo shoot the following day …

A perfect day

It was a lovely, sunny autumn day. The leaves on the trees had begun to gradually lose their color, but the weather itself was still warm and pleasant. Still, John didn’t seem to be able to appreciate the weather. He nervously twirled his shirt while he waited for the photographer. Susan found it really odd, but didn’t say anything. She knew John didn’t get along with the photographer.

Hated photos

He did not particularly like photographs and thus photographers, so that might be the explanation for his odd behavior. But when the photographer was approaching them, John went pale … The photographer welcomed the family warmly. He had visited Susan and John a few times before and the family always liked having them around. But all of a sudden John did not know what to do.

Behaved

With the smile of nervousness on his face, John turned towards the camera. He was trying to satisfy his family, good boy and part of this lovely family picture for eternity. But secretly, he was disintegrating. His hidden secret was gnawing at him and this could be seen quite evidently in the photos. The next morning when Susan downloaded the family photos from her email, she could not wait to look at them.

Expectation

Filled with anticipation, she drove home that afternoon. When she got home, she opened her laptop and double-clicked on the photo file. She went through the photos one by one. The photographer had taken excellent photos. They were awesome! But there was one photo that stumped her. It was the photo when they were all in one shot. Her husband seemed strained smiling in front of the camera. She was wondering why he was so tense that day.

A strange memory

But then something struck him. He recalled those suspicious glances that John and the photographer gave each other and the way John was sweating, just before the photo shoot. Perplexed, Susan covered her mouth with her hand. That could not be true! Slowly, she zoomed in on her husband’s hand. Unfortunately, this had established what Susan had long suspected

The truth

Her husband loved someone else. The ring on his left hand was not Susan’s wedding ring, but a gift he had received as a child from a close friend. This had proved her right. She had believed over the years that he was in love with the man he had met in high school, and that he was gay. Confused, Susan shut down her computer and sat in space for hours. And then suddenly she realized that it all made sense …

Confrontation

Susan made up her mind to address her husband and let him know what she believed, since she felt that was good for the relationship. After he returned home from work, she was already in the living room, waiting for him. She had requested the neighbor to take care of the children so that they would not be present there, in case there was some drama that could harm the little ones anyhow.

I knew it

When John had seen her resting on the couch, he knew what he had in store for him, he knew that she had found out everything. He sat down facing her and took a deep breath. And then he told her everything … He had been fighting his homosexuality for most of his life, and he was afraid to inform his wife. But, to Susan’s surprise, that was not everything. The photographer

John started unfolding with Susan, and proceeded to reveal that this dashing photographer who had visited them numerous times proved to be far greater than a typical family friend. Indeed, John and the photographer had been carrying on an affair for quite some time now. That was one of the reasons John was surprised to catch a glimpse of that photographer on that day.

I could not believe it

Susan didn’t believe what she heard at the time. What her husband, this person whom she believed she truly knew, had said was not possible. It was extremely difficult. Her whole life, a life she had deemed a flawless one, turned in a completely unexpected direction overnight. But she responded very differently to that, and that didn’t surprise John.

Broke down in tears

When John had finished telling his story he felt a bit freer, as he was no longer carrying everything single-handedly. Then he sat to cry opposite her on the couch and laid a hand on her knee. With the sad smile in her face, she saw her husband. She couldn’t believe the situation, but somehow she placed herself in her husband’s position, and tried to comprehend the entire situation.

The forgiveness

Susan hadn’t uttered a single word since John had begun to open up and share all his secrets. Susan was intently listening to John, and when it was her turn to talk, there was complete silence. Only then did Susan take a deep breath and begin addressing her husband. “Okay honey,” she whispered with a soft voice looking directly into the eyes of John. To John’s astonishment then she went on, “I forgive you.”

Understanding

Susan listened to John’s whole tale without saying a word. By the time John finished speaking, she had considered taking the whole thing from him. Initially, she believed it wasn’t fair. But instead, Susan did the best thing we can do with a situation such as this. First she tried to figure out how her husband felt, and then she attempted to walk in his shoes.

I loved him

Even though she had been unfaithful and they had both spent all those years lying to her about his homosexuality, Susan did love her husband and did not want to displease him. She wanted to make him happy above everything else. Instead of starting to berate him for the entire episode, Susan had realized it was not easy in any way to find oneself in the position John had been in at the moment.

The end

When they were done talking, they both looked for a way out. So they both divorced and fell in love with another. But there was one thing that remained constant: The pure love they both had for their kids. But though initially this love was romantic in nature, their relationship eventually transformed to an indestructible friendship, and more so they shared not only warm memories, but also a stunning family.
